About Tim

Tim Grieme is a saxophonist and has recently relocated from Michigan to Nashville, TN to further his performing career. Since moving, he has performed at venues such as The Gaylord Opryland, Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY, as well as other various bars around Nashville. Tim is also the saxophonist for the emerging jazz group, Triple Dare.

Tim earned a Master of Music Degree in Improvisation from The University of Michigan, studying under Andrew Bishop. During his time at Michigan Tim was fortunate to also receive mentorship from Ellen Rowe, Ed Sarath, Marcus Elliott, Nate Winn and others. Tim was a member of many ensembles, including various small groups, the UM Jazz Ensemble, and open-improvisation based Creative Arts Orchestra. With various UM ensembles, Tim has performed with artists such as Kris Johnson, Caleb Wheeler Curtis, Kris Davis, Marshall Gilkes, Jeff Hamilton, Jeff "Tain" Watts, and Randy Brecker, and has also performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival and world-renowned Dizzy's Club in New York City. Tim currently performs around Ann Arbor and recently hosted a jazz series at a local cafe titled Tim Grieme & Friends.
Previously, Tim earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. During his time at GVSU, he studied classical saxophone with Dan Graser, and jazz and improvisation with Michael Drost, Tim Froncek and Jordan VanHemert.

While living in West Michigan, Tim played with many groups both in and outside of school: The Grand Valley State University Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, The Ember Saxophone Quartet, 501 Swing Street, In The Blue, Squatch- a progressive rock/jazz fusion group, as well as regularly subbed with many other Grand Rapids based groups. Since its revival in 2018, Tim was also a member of the Holland Concert Jazz Orchestra (HCJO). With the group, he has premiered many works, including compositions by Josh Trentadue, Kevin Day, Chris Evans Haas, and more. Tim can also be heard playing lead alto saxophone with the HCJO on the album by Derek Brown (known for his beatbox style of playing) All Figured Out. Tim remains the bandleader for In the Blue, a Grand Rapids based group who primarily devote their time to performing at weddings and other private events. Tim also served as a staff member for a variety of marching bands in West Michigan and led a small private studio .
